Job Description

Job Responsibilities

* Research and develop new thermoplastic polymer-based coatings/films and new process technologies for protecting wood against biological and non-biological deterioration. Own the evaluation & selection of raw materials and auxiliary material solutions to satisfy design requirements.

* Conduct adhesive or functional polymer research utilizing engineering and scientific research methods for improvement or optimization of the performance of the current products and processes.

* Provide technical direction for existing and new thermoplastic polymer materials/composites and processes regarding material selection, characterization, and qualification, with ultimate translation to manufacturing.

* Successfully conduct multiple scientific projects simultaneously with little supervision using vetted DOE and data analysis principles.

* Conduct bench scale formulation studies, synthesis and perform wet analytical methods.

* Plan and execute lab to pilot scale trials to finalize equipment selection and sizing with equipment manufacturers, and shepherd the technology from development, through tech transfer into a cost effective and robust commercial design and ultimately into routine manufacturing operation.

* Utilize advanced thermoplastic and analytical knowledge, data, and statistical tools to solve technical challenges.

* Perform process development and scale-up testing to gather data for process design using internal resources, or by contracting with external labs/equipment vendors. Work closely with analytical support staff to develop in-process and final product QC.

* Evaluate the properties of experimental formulations and products using established procedures.

* Work with cross functional teams to support projects by performing laboratory work to improve product performance, troubleshoot and resolve customer issues.

* Provide technical support for trouble shooting treating plant issues and assist manufacturing process as well.

* Prepare clear and concise written reports/summaries with minimal supervision and editing.

* Work closely with external manufacturers/vendors to develop coating/film material incorporating functional polymer, pigments, and other auxiliary materials.

* Develop, organize, and execute business initiatives using proven project management principles and stage/gate processes.

* Make contributions to our corporate mission of sustainability, enabling existing products to elevate their market share, and establishing new performance products and brands.

* Established IP records. Create presentations/prepares papers for industry conferences

* Assist in the completion of other research projects as needed.

* Maintain neat, orderly and clear records of work completed.
